Phenome: a digitalisation service for manufacturing companies, run by Object

Phenome is a system for mapping, designing, building, verifying and monitoring the IT systems of a manufacturing company. Object, a software and engineering studio, sells it as a service in which Object's consultants choose platform modules for the gaps that cost the company most.

How an engagement runs

The first result is a map of the company, kept in the company's own repository. Besides processes it records the business model, the organisation, machines and the vehicle fleet, systems and databases, products, suppliers, customers, obligations, risks and data. Comparing the map with the catalogue of module roles produces a list of gaps. The first phase is meant to go live on its own, next to the systems the company keeps.

The five stages of a Phenome engagementMapping, designing, building, verifying and monitoring, one after another. After mapping, the people interviewed confirm the model. After verifying, the company decides to go live. A deviation found while monitoring opens a new design round.01Mappingcompany map withthe process model02Designinggap list with costs, deployment plan03Buildingmodules and adaptersto company systems04Verifyingconformancetest report05Monitoringobservationsand deviationsmap reviewedgo-live decisiona deviation opens a new design round

The consulting method, with its interview guide, process models drafted by AI from interview notes, gap analysis and phased deployment, is in development and has not yet been measured on an engagement. A table on the engagement page sets out what each stage produces and what the company decides.

First step: a 3D product configurator

The first service on offer is a 3D product configurator, because 3D is Object's strongest competence. A working demonstrator imports a frozen configuration into Odoo 19 as a confirmed sales order with six production files; the configurator page describes it.

Working today, and in development

Working today

  • The geometry kernel, written in C# for .NET 10, has 571 automated tests and public code under the MIT licence. It computes geometry on a server and in the browser, as WebAssembly.
  • The configurator authoring tools show a model's tree, parameters and 3D view in a VS Code window.
  • The Odoo 19 order demonstrator does not create a second order when the same configuration is imported again.
  • Processes are mapped in an OPM (ISO 19450) modelling tool that runs as a VS Code extension.
  • The handbook of contracts, draft 0.2, describes 32 responsibilities and 24 boundaries between modules.

In development

  • A generator service will store a frozen configuration with its price on the server.
  • The customer-facing configurator UI, which will embed in a web page and an online shop, is being built from the schema of published parameters.
  • An agent kit will let any AI agent build configurators, and their code will go through the same verification as hand-written code.
  • Conformance suites for module roles and a monitor for running deployments are being built.

Limits

Phenome is not an ERP and does not replace one. It connects to the ERP a company runs, or adds one where there is none.

The first engagements start with the configurator. Planning, quality and service are mapped and designed with the same method, but fewer modules for them are ready today.

Stage durations remain estimates until the first engagements measure them. AI can be left out of every stage. The company decides which AI model may see its data.
